Lonnie Clifford Slatton, 89, of Quebeck, left this world behind, on Aug. 15, 2025, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

He was born March 30, 1936, in Van Buren County, to Houston and Eva McCoy Slatton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Valerie Hawkins; brother, Gerald; and his sister, Zelmadeane Collier.

Lonnie was a former Van Buren County High basketball player and later served as a department manager at Genesco for 36 years. He was an avid Lady Vols fan! He rarely missed a game! In his younger years, he spent time hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Horseshoes in the backyard and farming brought him great joy. His greatest joy, though, was his daughter, Valerie. Theirs was a special bond. Lonnie was a songbird and loved singing to the Lord. He led church singing for over 50 years, most recently at Quebeck Church of Christ. His love of the Lord was evident.

Thank you to all who showed him love during his life, with special thanks to nieces Penny and Angie.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years and the love of his life, Betty Slatton. He will always be in her heart. Survivors also include son-in-law Micheal Hawkins, nieces Bobbie Deane (Ronnie) Bouldin, and Bonita Vann, along with many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alyson Jones for making his last two months brighter.

Friends and family celebrated Lonnie's life at 11 a.m., Aug. 19, 2025, at Hunter Funeral Home. Speakers were R.C. Christian and Doug Goff, with song leader Don Shuster.

Graveside service followed at Jericho Cemetery. Dan Horton was the speaker.

Pallbearers were Ricky Dildine, Brandon Vann, Jimmy Seamons, A.J. King, Darin Horton, and Max Slatton.

Goodnight, Lonnie. We love you!

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
