Margaret Stewart Anderton, 95, of Sparta, passed away March 24, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Margaret was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Sparta, to Claude and Sula Howard Stewart.
After a few years at Commerce Union Bank, on "The Square," in Sparta, Margaret returned to school at Tennessee Tech, earning her bachelor's degree. Alongside her late husband, she owned and operated a dry-cleaning store before ultimately becoming the accountant for the Edd Rogers dealership. Margaret proudly held that position for nearly 50 years. Her amazing retention of information and knowledge of numbers allowed her to continue to work as recently as a few weeks ago. As a champion bridge player, she was a regular competitor in Crossville and at state competitions in East Tennessee, as well as her regular game in Sparta with friends. She enjoyed traveling but was always happy to return home in her beloved city of Sparta.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Twilla Stein, and her brother, Tom Stewart.
Survivors include her godson, Don Nicholson and wife Patricia, of White House; goddaughter, Amy Pierce and husband Kenny, of Hohenwald; adopted family, Eddie and Elaine Rogers and their family; caregiver, Linda Bell; and staff of Edd Rogers Chevrolet.
