Melvin "Suitcase" Medley, 71, of Cookeville, passed to his Heavenly home, on July 27, 2025, while at his residence.
Born May 4, 1954, in Cookeville, Melvin was a lifelong truck driver and mechanic who also worked at the recycling center in semi-retirement. Known for his infectious laugh, skill in fixing anything, and willingness, he lived life with a big heart and a strong work ethic.
A devoted race fan, Melvin loved NASCAR, drag racing, and dirt tracks, rarely missing a chance to attend with family or friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Melvin “Darrell” Medley; parents, William V. and Bulah Elby Bennett Medley; and brothers Marvin “Tub” Medley, John W. Bennis, and Morgan “Bam” Medley.
He is survived by children Tracy (Matt) Moorehead, Ryan Medley, Cassandra (Julie) Hughes, Matthew Medley; longtime companion and former wife, Marsha Medley; 11 grandchildren; and siblings Mike (Kathy) Medley, Marlin “Peanut” Medley, Pat Goodwin, and Dolly Gibson.
A celebration of life will be 1 p.m., Aug. 30, 2025, at Oldham Theater/Event Center, in Sparta.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who worked hard, laughed loud, and loved deeply.
