Merilyn Ann Phifer Denty, 92, of Mt. Morris, Michigan, passed away Sept. 28, 2025, at her residence.
Merilyn was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Sparta/White County, to Clarence Samuel Phifer and Myrtle Guy Phifer.
She grew up in Doyle and graduated from White County High School-Class of 1950.
On Aug.14, 1954, she married Larry Denty, in Hannibal, Missouri. Merilyn, alongside her husband, bought Beechwood Greens Golf Course where the family still runs and enjoys it. She has enjoyed years of leagues and outings, even scoring a hole in one. Her hobbies were golfing, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to garage sales, shopping, and going out to eat.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Denty, on Sept. 29, 2019; son, Stephen Denty; grandson, Casey Thomas; granddaughter, Lauren Denty; son-in-law, Bill Thomas; sisters, Jessie Phifer Burgess Bratcher, Hazel Phifer Whittington, Ada Phifer Jones; and brothers, George Earl Phifer and Hollis Edward Phifer.
Survivor include her daughters, Terri Denty, Cheryl Denty Thomas; son, Brian (Audra) Denty; grandchildren, Sarah, Morgan (Jonay), Jadyn (Jacob), Anne (Travis), Michael, Haley, Heather Thomas, Jeremy (Amber), Heather (Mark), Brian, Coletin; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Celina, Miyah, Elijah, Jaxson, Addison, Alexa, Harper, Landon, Carson, Mark, Easton, Nathan, Emily, Kaytlin, Lily, Logan, Ava, and Madalyn; sister, Johnnie Phifer Hudson (Norman Calbow), of Sparta; sister-in-law, Katherine Guy Phifer, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.
Honoring Merilyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to the Crossover Outreach.
