Minute with the Mayor

Posted

One of the messages that rang loud and clear as I campaigned for mayor of Sparta was the need for some recreation that could be enjoyed for everyone in our community.  In an effort to keep that promise for our community, the board of aldermen and I have been looking at ways that vision could become a reality.

A quick update on the new splash pad and playground continues to move forward and we are hoping in the very near future to release the first initial drawing of the site that will be built.  Once that happens and all the changes to me made on paper, the construction will begin.

Another area is a new Riverfront Park Project that the city is excited about.  We are in the process of making a purchase of a piece of property that will become a very nice park setting that our community will be able to access and enjoy some outdoor activities.  Walking, jogging, and bike pathways will be a major part of this park.  Kayak and fishing docks will be in this area.  Many outdoor activities such as a frisbee golf course, picnic area, and a playground or two will be located there.

This is a project that we are looking at.  The board of aldermen must run through the process of purchasing the land and often the wheels of government run slow.  Our hope is to bring to a vote this month and secure everything down.  I felt it necessary to say we have not taken ownership of the land, but it had to be brought up in a public meeting to proceed with the purchase.  There has been much talk about this, and I needed to make sure the public was aware of the plan from the city.  More in the very near future.

Be safe out there. Finish strong.
