There are several projects that are in the pipeline to research, begin, plan, and discuss, and I would like to mention some of them today.
Some of you may have noticed a large tanker type truck in the city streets this past week. We have contracted with a company to video our sewer lines. The video will allow us to see problem areas in our sewer system. When a problem is found, we will have a better opportunity to get the problem repaired. The work should be completed by the end of the week.
The city has entered into a contract to purchase some land that will be developed into a very nice park area that residents will be able to enjoy getting outdoors. This is a long-range plan that will have some grants and funding opportunities to develop that property.
When the Sparta/White County Senior Center lost its contract with state and federal entities to provide meals for our senior citizens, the senior center had to be closed for renovation and the meal program was stopped. I am proud to say that after much hard work from Jane Guy, her staff, the board, and partners with the Upper Cumberland Development District, the center has started the meal program. At the present time, restrictions state that a person must eat the meal while at the activity center.
We will be planning a town hall meeting to discuss the North Spring Street sidewalk project that will be starting when the plans have been drawn up. We have not received the final plans on the sidewalk project, but, when we do, the city will make it public for our residents.
It is a joy to be serving as your mayor in this great town we call Sparta.
Be safe out there. Finish Strong.
