What a weekend we experienced with the storms and numerous tornado warnings. I am incredibly thankful that we were able to distribute nearly 700 weather radios throughout our community, ensuring that everyone stayed informed during the severe weather.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our city and county emergency personnel who remained on call, ready to respond when and where they were needed. Our dedicated crews worked tirelessly to clear streets of debris and repair power lines brought down by the wind and falling trees. Your commitment to the safety and well-being of our community is truly appreciated.
A special thank you also goes to our local weather professionals who provided real-time updates on social media, keeping us informed with accurate and timely information. Your dedication makes a tremendous difference.
While the city of Sparta is not currently set to resume regular brush pickup within city limits, we understand the urgency caused by the storm. In response, we will conduct an emergency brush pickup for affected areas within the city. I would like to sincerely thank Jerry Sawyer and the White County Highway Department for generously providing a space for us to dispose of the collected debris.
As we move into the storm season, I urge everyone to stay prepared. Having a plan and the necessary resources can make all the difference during severe weather events. If you have any questions about brush pickup or would like tips on storm preparedness, please don’t hesitate to contact City Hall.
Thank you all for your resilience and support. May God bless you, and let’s continue to stay safe and strong together.
Mayor Jerry Lowery, City of Sparta
