Non-Profit Helping New Mothers

Posted

Sparta MomCo is one of the newer non-profits here in Sparta, and they offer a service that is hard to come by in such an organized form: dedicated support for local mothers.

Originally beginning as MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers) from Cookeville, Sparta MomCo branched off and rebranded a few years ago in response to a need they saw in the Sparta Community. Bethany Cullen described it as, “a need for moms to have community and support locally. We want to create a village by being good villagers- showing up for one another, building friendships, and pointing each other to Christ.”

MomCo has monthly meetings with specialists on childcare, speakers, crafts, and discussions about future events. At times, they have partnered with local churches and other community businesses to collaborate for the sake of the community, such as last year’s A Walk to Remember.

Cullen wanted to share that while each group is suited for its community, there is some collaboration with the other branches and groups of MomCo in Cookeville and Baxter. Most recently, their Valentine’s Day Couples’ Night was hosted by the Cookeville group.

“The biggest benefit is genuine community,” said Cullen. “Moms have a place where they can be known, encouraged, and build lasting friendships while their children are cared for. I also know the meal trains are a big hit with our new moms. Feeling cared for when you’re in a new role as a new mom of 1, or a mom of 5+, is incredible.”

Registering for the new 2026-2027 year is open. One Monday each month starting in August until May, Sparta MomCo will meet at Hampton’s Crossroads from 9:30-11:30 a.m. They invite anyone seeking to get involved to connect with their Facebook @SpartaMomCo or email them at spartamomco@gmail.com.
