Paul David Thompson, 85, affectionately known as “Bud,” passed away Sept. 7, 2023, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.
Mr. Thompson was born March 20, 1938, in Sparta, to Paul and Martha Edna Cody Thompson.
Bud was a truck driver, operating 18-wheelers and heavy equipment. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as an engineer, driving heavy equipment. At his happiest, he could be found at Lake Tansi with his wife and friends. Bud also loved to take rides around Sparta with his wife, where they could often be found in one of their spots “watching the world go by.”
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn Thompson.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jo Thompson; daughters,
Tawnya and husband David Jones, Starla and husband Gary Wilkey; brother, Fred (Tiny) Thompson; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Thompson family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with Bud’s cremation, with a private burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
