Philip Derrell Watson, affectionately known as Phil, passed away March 13, 2023, at Summit Medical Center, in Hermitage.

Phil was born July 30, 1960, in Nashville, to Johnnie Mai Hancock Watson and Vern Wright Watson.

He was an I.T. tech since the late 1980s, currently working for Dell Computers, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was an avid fisherman. He and his buddy, Bart, would go fishing every Saturday morning for years, sometimes bringing home a big fish or just a really good fishing story.

Phil loved God, family, work, helping people, and cats. He and his wife, Linda, raised several cats over the years, including his current fur baby, Munchie.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jasper Ronald Savage.

Phil is lovingly survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Savage Watson; mother, Johnnie Mai Watson; aunt, Gail (Jimmy) McKnight; uncle, Danny (Norma) Hancock; cousin, Kristen (Russell) Jackson and her family, Landon, Abigale, and Miles; mother-in-law, Mary Savage; sister-in-law, Melissa Savage (Max) Mackeny; niece, Brittany (Jeremiah) Anderson and her family, Britt, J.J., Dawson, and Vannah; niece, Elizabeth Merritt and her family, Leon and Kye; and several cousins and other family members.

Funeral service was 11 a.m., March 18, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Doyle Cemetery. Elbert Smith officiated.

Max Mackeny, Jeremiah Anderson, Mark Wright, Danny Hancock, Britt Mason, Bart Trent, and Jonathan Savage served as pallbearers.

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
