Putnam County sheriff addresses disruption at county commission meeting

Posted

(July 1, 2025) - At the conclusion of last night’s Putnam County Commission Meeting, a group of attendees, including individuals affiliated with the Putnam County Democratic Party, Putnam County Young Democrats, and the Indivisible Upper Cumberland group, were present and generally peaceful. However, some individuals engaged in disruptive behavior that required law enforcement intervention. One individual, identified as Trenton Tyler Strode, was initially arrested at the scene and additional arrests may follow as the investigation continues.

Strode reportedly attempted to move past deputies in an aggressive manner toward the county commissioners and made physical contact with deputies. When deputies attempted to detain him, Strode reportedly resisted arrest. During the incident, other attendees voiced concerns, but deputies on site worked swiftly to restore order and ensure the safety of all present.

“As sheriff, it is my responsibility to ensure that public meetings remain safe and orderly,” said Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris. “Citizens have every right to attend and participate in government meetings; however, any physical confrontation or interference with law enforcement duties will be addressed in accordance with the law.”

Trenton Tyler Strode was arrested and charged with Assault Against a First Responder, Disrupting a Public Meeting, and Resisting Arrest. Strode has a total bond of $9,500 and a court date of Aug. 4, 2025.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Other charges on other individuals are pending.
