Road closure announced on Roberts-Matthews Highway

Bridge built in 1942 crossing Post Oak Creek to be replaced

Posted

The Roberts-Matthews Highway Bridge over Post Oak Creek, which is one mile south of the White and Putnam County line, will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. This closure is necessary so construction crews can replace the current bridge structure. The roadway will remain closed until completion of the project, which is anticipated to take approximately nine months.

Roberts-Matthews Highway will be closed between South Cookeville Lane and Farley Road. Walnut Grove Road and Lancaster Road will be marked as the detour route around the construction area. It is highly recommended that all through traffic utilize Highway 111. Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area as this work is taking place and to pay close attention to construction and detour signage.

The contractor for the $2.8 million project is Twin K Construction Inc. of Helenwood, Tennessee, and the estimated project completion date is May 27, 2024.

The project is funded under a contract with the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation.
