Robert Harold Prater Sr., better known as Bobby, 73, of Sparta, went to be with the Lord, at 9:03 a.m., June 20, 2023, while in the emergency room at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.
Bobby was born Dec. 28, 1949, in Sparta, to Johnny M. and Thelma Ray Hodge Prater.
He was an iron worker and had a long career in construction, either with his own construction company or 20-plus years with J&S Construction. In addition to his construction work, he was a lifelong farmer.
Bobby was a devout, God fearing Christian. He served as a deacon at Ole Bethel Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church, and Freedom Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and a wonderful daddy to his children and Papa to his grandchildren. His happiest times were spent with all of his family being together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James E. Prater.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janis Brown Prater; sons, Robby Prater, Sam Prater and wife Meghan; daughter, Kim Eller and husband Todd; and grandchildren, Kalab, Katie, Lexi, Brayden, and AnaBelle
Funeral service was 3 p.m., June 23, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Rose Chapel Cemetery. Jerry Womack and Stephen Brown officiated.
