Royce Dale Pitman passed away suddenly at the age of 74, on Jan. 3, 2026.

Royce was born Feb. 22, 1951, in Sparta, to Lewis Pitman and Beatrice Cunningham Pitman.

Royce attended Black Oak Elementary School. He graduated from White County High School, in 1969. Royce’s career was with Acme Boot Factory, in Cookeville, Tennessee; Hartsville, Tennessee; Smithville, Tennessee; and Victoria, Virginia. After 20 years of service, Acme Boot shut down. Royce then went to work at ECMD driving a truck. He said he never wanted to manage that many women again!!

Royce had a great love of all ball. He played basketball, volleyball, softball, bowling, and golf. Royce also loved farming. His greatest love was his wife, Dotty, his son, Jason, and his grandkids, Luke and Bella.

He really enjoyed taking his grandkids fishing, riding them on our tractors, and watching them play.

Royce was a member of Plainview Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Pitman and Gene Pitman and his sisters, Barbara Jones, Eulaine Pedigo, and Katherine Pitman.

Surviving family members left to cherish his memory, include his wife of 56 years, Dotty Humphrey Pitman; son, Jason and wife Angie Pitman; grandkids, Luke and Bella Pitman; and brother, Dewey and wife Linda Pitman.

Special mention to Royce’s lifelong best friend, Sady Howard, who was always part of every funny shenanigan they got into. They weren’t biological brothers but brothers all the same.

The ceremony of life will begin at 2 p.m., with ceremony following at 4 p.m., on Jan. 11, 2026, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
