SHIP to host free 'Welcome to Medicare' classes

Are you eligible for Medicare and curious about your plan options? Upper Cumberland SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) is conducting a series of FREE ABCs of Medicare! classes this month on Tuesday, July 11, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) office located at 1104 England Drive in Cookeville; on Monday, July 24, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Millard Oakley Library located at 107 E. Main Street in Livingston; and on Wednesday, July 26, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the White County Library located at 11 N. Church Street in Sparta.

Each class will consist of training on Parts A, B, C & D, as well as Medigap policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud. Registration for each class is required. To register, please call 931-423- 4150.

SHIP is a federally funded program administered through the Area Agency on Aging & Disability (AAAD). SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) and SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) are administered locally by the Upper Cumberland Development District and cover all 14 Upper Cumberland counties. SHIP/SMP representatives provide free and unbiased Medicare counseling for any questions, abuse, or concerns; they will also screen Medicare beneficiaries for Low-Income Assistance Programs.
