As part of ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse and promote community health and safety, Sparta Police Department announces its upcoming Drug Take Back Event. Scheduled for April 27, 2024, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the event will be held at Sparta Police Department

The Drug Take Back Event provides community members with a safe and convenient way to dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications. By safely disposing of these medications, individuals can help prevent drug misuse, abuse, and environmental contamination.

Improper disposal of prescription drugs can have serious consequences, including accidental ingestion by children, misuse by others, and contamination of water sources. The Drug Take Back Event aims to address these concerns by offering a secure and anonymous way for community members to dispose of their medications.

“We recognize the importance of proper medication disposal in preventing substance abuse and protecting our environment,” said Nick Dunn, chief of Sparta Police Department. “Our goal is to provide a convenient and confidential way for individuals to safely dispose of their unused or expired medications. By participating in this event, community members can play a vital role in keeping our families and environment safe.”

The Drug Take Back Event is open to all members of the community, and participation is free of charge. No questions will be asked, and all medications will be accepted, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and pet medications.

For those unable to attend the event, Sparta Police Department also offers a year-round prescription drug drop-off box located inside the lobby of the police department. This drop-off box provides a safe and anonymous way for individuals to dispose of their medications at any time.

For more information about the Drug Take Back Event or the prescription drug drop-off box, please contact Chief Nick Dunn at (931) 836-3734 or n.dunn@spartatn.gov
