Sparta Rotary helps improve White County classrooms

Posted

Several teachers across White County received cash gifts to kick off the 2026-2027 school year.

The Rotary Club of Sparta presented $50 to each of the 25 new teachers at seven schools across the county to help them prepare their classrooms for the new school year. This is the second year that Sparta Rotary has provided funds for new teachers to purchase classroom material.

“Having a wife and two daughters who teach, I knew how hard it was for a new teacher to have enough resources to equip a classroom fresh out of college,” said Ben Clark, the Rotarian who headed the program.” A lot of young teachers come out of secondary education with debt and we thought this would be a great way to help them get started.”

New teacher recipients included:

BonDeCroft Elementary School in Sparta: Julianna Hotchkiss and Megan Schibig;

Cassville Elementary School in Sparta: Mercedes Chaston and Morgan Knourek;

Doyle Elementary School in Doyle: Lexie Brewington;

Findlay Elementary School in Sparta: Crystal Acosta;

Woodland Park Elementary School in Sparta: Kitlin Cannon, Alexandria Martin, Abbigail McCulley, Emma Oaks, Hailee Randall, Brian Smith, Zoe Smith, and Rachel Wilson;

White County Middle School in Sparta: Ashlyn Adcock, Isabelle Christopher, Courtney Farr, Bayleigh Gant, Davie Harbin, and Elan Thompson; and

White County High School in Sparta: Brandy Alley, Jayde Copeland, Bethany Dukes, Cory Parham, and Laiton Pigg.

“I like the thought of Rotary Club of Sparta expressing the importance of giving back to the community by promoting and supporting the young educators of White County,” Clark said. “They have a tough job, and helping them just a little can go a long way toward the betterment of our local education system.”
