Tech celebrates National Scholarship Month ahead of Dec. 15 deadline

Posted

November is National Scholarship Month and with the 2022-2023 Tennessee Tech scholarship application deadline set for December 15, Tech students can apply for over 600 different scholarships with one application.

National Scholarship Month was established in 1998 by Scholarship America and one of its purposes is to raise awareness of scholarships.

One can apply for Tech scholarships via an online application called ScholarWeb.

“Tech has used the central ScholarWeb application since 2013. The central application is a smart system that automatically matches applicants to each scholarship that they meet the minimum criteria for.” Cassandra Gronendyke, scholarship coordinator, said.

“More scholarships are being created all the time through the gifts of generous donors who want to help our students succeed,” Gronendyke said.

“I am proud to say we have had more students complete the application each year than the year before. Last year we had over 6,600 submitted applications for 2021-2022 scholarships and I hope to beat that for the 2022-2023 application,” Gronendyke said.

Each scholarship has a designated administering unit, usually named in the gift agreement. Most are administered by the colleges and academic departments, and some are administered by the Scholarship Office or other student support offices.

The largest scholarship given out each year is the Lawrence W. Hester and Jean Whitson Hester Memorial Endowed Scholarship, according to Gronendyke. This is a renewable scholarship awarded to a first-year Nursing student and covers all fees, tuition, books, lodging, and meals.

Fall 2022 incoming freshmen and returning students must apply for scholarships by the December 15 deadline to be considered for most Tech scholarships.
