Tennessee Tech Spirit Days

It’s that time of year again! Tennessee Tech Spirit Days are here, starting July 31 and running through Aug. 25. New purple and gold yard signs are available that say “Tennessee Tech” and incorporate the university’s logo and the state’s tri-star symbol.

“Tech Spirit Days are bigger and better than ever,” said Shanna Muncy, Tech’s director of marketing promotions and events. “This celebration has always been about welcoming new and returning students back to campus and the Cookeville community. This year we have brought back on-campus decorating contests and other competitions with our local businesses. This gets the whole campus and city involved.”

To help the community celebrate, Tech yard signs are free and available for pick up on campus at the Crawford Alumni Center inside the Varsity Building and at the University Bookstore inside the Roaden University Center. Signs are also available for pick up in the community at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce in the Leslie Town Centre.

“We have revamped our business program with a new name – Golden Eagle Perk Partners,” said Muncy. “Our students are such a vibrant and vital part of the Cookeville community and we want to help businesses celebrate that.”

Golden Eagle Perk Partners are local businesses that support the university by offering some form of a year-long Tech discount or special offer to students, faculty and staff. There is no charge or fee to become a Perk Partner, and the discounts and offers are listed on the university’s website. New Perk Partners are accepted throughout the year. In addition, Perk Partners get to participate in the exclusive “Connect with Cookeville” local business fair held on campus. The event is set for Aug. 16 this year, but businesses must be registered as a Perks Partner and only the first 50 to sign up are considered for participation.

“At the start of the fall semester during our annual Week of Welcome, we host the Connect with Cookeville event, and it is very popular with the students,” explained Muncy. “This is a way for students who are new to the university and Cookeville area to get exposed to our local businesses. Many businesses that participate offer free samples and giveaways.”

Tennessee Tech is ranked as a “Best National University” by U.S. News & World Report. The university offers more than 200-plus programs of study, and Tech grads leave with the least debt of all public universities in the state.
