2014

  • White County Fairest of the Fair Ashton Mitchell visited Northfield Elementary School to read a story about Pocahontas for Women’s History Month.
  • The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life in the 40 Middle Tennessee counties, announced $6,500 in grants that would be awarded to White County non-profit organizations.
  • The White County Parks and Rec committee agreed to contribute $5,000 to help fund a skate park in a joint venture with the City of Sparta.

2004

  • Zoe Cantrell, a first-grade student at Woodland Park Elementary, donated more than 10 inches of her beautiful blonde hair to Locks of Love.
  • Members of the Wolfpack Cheerleading Team, which trained at the YMCA in Sparta, headed to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the National Cheerleading Championships – the finals of which were to be aired on ESPN.
  • Chris Sobianek was the first winner of the Hidden History Hunt, sponsored by The Expositor. Sobianek found the first history brick at South Carter Street Park.

1994

  • American Legion Post 99 in Sparta, along with 249 other posts across the state of Tennessee, celebrated the organizations 75th birthday.
  • Jason Rogers, son of Bobby and Kay Rogers, signed a golf scholarship with Cumberland University. Jason was the first White County High School student to be awarded a four-year golf scholarship.
  • Kirk Bumbalough, Greg Floyd, Jason Goodwin, and Justin Moore, all juniors at White County High School, were selected as White County’s delegates to attend Boys State, in May.

1984

  • A burglary at White County High School was discovered. Principal Charles Dycus reported that an estimated $3,000 worth of equipment, including computers, cassette recorders, and a VCR were taken.
  • Geraldine Robinson, of Moore Street, was chosen from many contestants as the WSMT Sweetheart. She received prizes totaling $250.
  • Educational and business leaders, including Amy Young, Susan Keck, Jim Floyd, Mabel Moore, Linda Lafever, and Larry Frasier, conducted a 4-H Career Preparedness Workshop.
