1973

  • Officers and directors of White County Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. celebrated its 50th anniversary with a steak dinner at the Tennessean Restaurant.
  • Susan Hutson and Jimmy Demps were voted Most Talented by White County High School Class of 1973.
  • Kenneth Milligan, an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, announced his candidacy for Sparta alderman.

1983

  • Harold B. Mills announced his candidacy for Sparta city alderman.
  • Well known entertainer/singer Charlie Daniels visited Sparta as a guest at Wade Hightower’s farm.

1993

  • White County Warriorettes beat Manchester for the regional championship, followed by a win over Bradley County which secured the team a berth in the state finals at Middle Tennessee State University
  • Terry Alley, a White County High School graduate, was chosen to officiate at the TSSAA State Tournament.

2003

  • Doris Gamble, office representative for White County Chapter of American Red Cross, explained that the threat of war in Iraq had prompt the motto “Together We Prepare.”
  • White County High School Warriorettes brought home district honors. Natalee Anderson, Brooke Sunday, and Amanda Lewis were voted to the All-District Team. Brittany Farley and April Hickok were named honorable mention.
  • White County Narcotics Unit netted three arrests in two separate cases.

2013

  • Twenty-three were arrested in drug sting called “Operation Hawk Bill.”
  • Upper Cumberland Regional Airport was awarded $863,500 in grants.
  • Plans for the fourth annual Aaron Shafer Memorial Road Race were underway.
  • Roy Sewell Gymnasium was host to an archery tournament made up of 10 high school and middle school archery teams.
