Thomas Eugene Vinson, affectionately known as Buzz, 67, of Sparta, passed away peacefully at home, on Oct. 22, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
Tommy was born Sept. 7, 1957, in McMinnville, to Billy T. and Mary Frances Yott Vinson.
They soon moved back to Sparta where Tommy had the pleasure of growing up. He loved fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, NASCAR, Predators’ hockey, and Tennessee football.
Tommy graduated from White County High School, in 1975. While in high school, he played football and was a member of the 1972 Civic Bowl Team. Playing football at Sparta was where Tommy received the nickname “Buzzard,” which was later shortened to Buzz.
Tommy proudly served in the United States Army, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery. He served two tours in South Korea. Tommy retired from L.T.D. Parts in Sparta.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan; his aunt, Bernice Clouse; and several cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
A special thank you to the staff at Vanderbilt Hospital, the “V.A.,” Suncrest Home Health, Palliative Care Services of Tennessee, and Hospice of Tennessee. All were amazing in their care of Tommy.
Tommy’s wishes of cremation are being honored.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
