THP and other law enforcement agencies join in pursuit

A pursuit that had originally begun in Smith County and ultimately ended in White County, on March 9, 2024, ended with the arrest of a 41-year-old man.

According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, on March 9, 2024, at approximately 9:53 a.m., a BOLO (be on the lookout) was broadcast for a silver Dodge Ram 1500 that had just been involved in a pursuit in Smith County earlier on March 9.  

A THP trooper observed this vehicle exit Interstate 40 onto State Route 111 and pull into the Travel Centers of America parking lot. Unsuccessful attempts to apprehend the subject were made while the vehicle was in the parking lot. 

According to the report, a pursuit began south on State Route 111 toward White County.  The vehicle continued south on State Route 111 and near the US 70W exit. Law enforcement officers were able to spike the subject’s right-side tires, front and back. 

The vehicle continued south on State Route 111 until it lost control and spun out as it attempted to turn onto Fred Hill Road, in White County. The driver, Jeffery M. Mabery, fled on foot but was apprehended by law enforcement officers. 

The report stated Mabery, 41 years, is from Tennessee.  He has been charged with various traffic-related offenses, including driving under the influence, evading arrest by use of a motor vehicle, driving on a revoked license, possession of drugs (suspected marijuana and methamphetamine), and drug paraphernalia. Mabery also has a felony warrant on file in Tennessee for a parole violation.
