Thurston Proctor Jolley, 94, of Sparta, passed away May 9, 2024, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Jolley was born Oct. 24, 1929, in the Jolley Creek community, of Pickett County, to Dudley Proctor and Sadie Marie Pyles Jolley.

He enjoyed a varied work career that spanned many fields - from a well-known livestock trader with Jolley’s Feeder Pigs to furniture maker; also a founder of Community Bank and Trust in Hartselle, Alabama, as well as a courier for NHC Healthcare. Mr. Jolley was also an active member of First Christian Church, in Sparta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Glenn Jolley, Ronnie Jolley, and Tommy Wheeler; grandson, Tyler Jolley; sister, Edith Anderson; and brother, Paul Jolley.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen Smith Jolley; daughter, Pat McBride and husband Clifford; son, Danny Jolley and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, Steven McBride and wife Cindy, Jennifer Jolley, Travis McBride and wife Jennifer, Chad Jolley and wife Robin, Dana Ramirez and husband Jeremy, Nicholas Jolley and husband Chris, Stacy Jolley, Laney Jolley, Tara Jolley, Forest Wheeler and wife Myranda, Hannah Wheeler Cooper; daughters-in-law, Beverly Jolley and Sherry Jolley; special cousin. Elaine Elder; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service was 1 p.m., May 13, 2024, at Hunter Funeral Home. In honor of Mr. Jolley’s wishes, Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation following his funeral, and a graveside service will be conducted at Bethlehem Cemetery at a later date.
