tnAchieves announces 2021 mentor ambassadors

As tnAchieves prepares to work with its 13th student cohort, the non-profit is announcing its inaugural class of tnAchieves Mentor Ambassadors.

tnAchieves Mentor Ambassadors are individuals from the community who have gone above and beyond to support their students and the tnAchieves organization since its inception in 2008. tnAchieves Mentor Ambassadors provide local feedback on the program and offer support in ensuring local mentor need is met.

“Much of our success lies in our volunteer mentoring program,” said tnAchieves Executive Director Krissy DeAlejandro. “Our inaugural class of tnAchieves Mentor Ambassadors includes individuals who have remained steadfast in their commitment to this work. Every one of our mentors is making a difference in their community, and our mentor ambassadors have played an important role in increasing local awareness of the need for mentor support.”

White County’s mentor ambassadors include:

  • Melody Edmonds
  • Jody Sliger

“We can’t thank our mentor ambassadors enough,” said tnAchieves Director of Mentors Tyler Ford. “Their efforts to support mentoring locally represent a critical piece of our success in each county we serve. We are grateful to have their support and the support of all volunteers who serve as a tnAchieves mentor.”

With less than six weeks until the Dec. 3, 2021 mentor recruitment deadline, more than 4,700 mentors are still needed across the state. In White County, 21 mentors are still needed.

Mentors serve as an additional layer of support for TN Promise students as they navigate the college-going process. They commit one hour per month to provide reminders ahead of important deadlines, serve as a trusted college resource and, most importantly, encourage each student to reach their full potential. All tnAchieves mentors are provided training and a handbook. Anyone who would like to learn more about mentoring can visit www.tnAchieves.org/mentors.

tnAchieves is a 501(c)3 non-profit that has provided scholarships with mentor support since 2008. If you have questions about the tnAchieves mentoring program, please email or call Tyler Ford at tyler@tnAchieves.org or (309) 945-3446.
