Upha Moleta Iles Ross was born June 4, 1931, in Sale Creek, Tennessee, to Porter Whiten Iles and Narcissa Lewis Iles.

She was a member of First Christian Church, in Sparta.

She was multi-talented, including homemaker, seamstress, artist, and quilter. She worked for 10 years in the University of Alabama Human Resources department. She moved back to Tennessee from Birmingham upon her retirement and designed her forever home, overseeing its construction.

She was a peacemaker and kind to all. She was quick to correct those that mispronounced her name, which is said “You-FA.” She will be missed by those that knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Creed, Newton, Norman, Foster (Bud), and her sisters, Vicki and Doris (Dot).

She is survived by her brother, Murphy Iles; her three children, Larie, Andria, Mike; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Oct. 4, 2024, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Norman Cunningham will officiate. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Oct. 3, at the funeral home.
