‘Veterans In Transition American Legion’ program implemented in Spencer

Posted

So, there are a lot of rumors going around about what those four buildings are at the American Legion, in Spencer. I thought it was time to share the GREAT news about the project.

There are over 2,000 veterans who are considered “homeless” in the state of Tennessee. At the Legion, our mission includes the support of veterans, and, at post 207, we made the decision to make a commitment to help four veterans at a time.

There are many reasons that veterans may need the resources during a period of life transition. In addition to housing, we have developed a team of additional resources including chaplains, social workers, health professionals, financial advisors, and veteran job placement services.

This project has been three years in the making, and thousands of hours have been invested. The plans are coming together, and, when complete, these units will be available for single-occupancy for a period of one year. During that time, we will provide resources to assist the veteran to transition to a long-term residential option.

We still have a long way to go but look forward to completing the interiors as soon as possible. If you have skills that you are willing to provide to help with this project, please contact the commander at hanselmoore@yahoo.com or at (440)361-0346.

We look forward to sharing the growth and progress with our Van Buren County community.
