Walter Lex Herron Jr., affectionately known as Walt or PeeWee, 80, of Doyle, passed away Aug. 31, 2025, at the Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital, with his family by his side.
Walt was born Feb. 2, 1945, in Cookeville, to Walter Lex Sr. and Aline Frances Parrot Herron.
Walt proudly served in the United States Air Force, in Vietnam. He served many White Countians with Herron’s Custom Exhaust. Walt looked forward to Sunday afternoons for Sunday dinners and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed playing golf, but, above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glynon Herron.
Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 38 years, Margaret Herron; children, Teresa Pettit, Shane (Misty) Pettit, Titus (Jamie) Simmons; grandchildren, LeAnne (Jeff) Hobbs, Leland (Davina) Bouldin, Daniel Seamons, Brenton Mooneyham, Slayton (Jemima) Pettit, Madysen Pettit, Dawson Simmons, Lucas Simmons, Aubrey Pettit; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Ann (Don) Goldman, Marsha Curtis, Bobby (Diane) Herron, Phillip “Bo” Herron; special friends, Harold England, Robert Meeks, Ricky Young, James Leftwich, Gary Parrish, Stephen Luna, Barry Smith, Bobby Kemp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., Sept. 4, 2025, at Doyle Church of the Nazarene. Burial, with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard, followed in Skurlock Cemetery. Bro. Tracy Curtis and William Welch officiated, with special speakers Don Goldman and Bobby Kemp.
Pallbearers were Slayton Pettit, Leland Bouldin, Dawson Simmons, Lucas Simmons, Alex Steiner, Stephen Luna, Morgan Young and Barry Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Young and Harold England
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
