WCHS Academic Spotlight

Emily Dietz is a senior at White County High School, and, while being an outstanding student, her time as a Warrior has been spent serving her fellow students while developing leadership skills that make her stand out among her peers.

“Emily is as dedicated, down-to-earth, and hardworking as they come,” Jason Crockett, a member of the White County High School faculty, said. “I’ve had [her] in my classes since her sophomore year, and she is always one of the leaders in class.”

Crockett’s description of Dietz makes sense, considering the senior said she feels one of her best qualities is that she is “willing to work hard in order to succeed.”

Dietz has dedicated her time in high school to not only her academic studies that she hopes will carry her well into a future at the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga but also to a variety of programs that aim to better both herself, the student body, and her community. Dietz is a member of the Beta Club, Skills U.S.A., Interact, International, and the Student Council.

“Emily is our SkillsUSA Club president at WCHS,” Jerrica Demps, who teaches Criminal Justice at White County High School, said. “Emily represents the club with a combination of leadership skills, effective communication, organization, and a genuine passion for the club’s mission.”

Dietz’s leadership skills transcend just the usual president of a club, good student, reliable, and dependable type of classmate. According to her teachers, she goes over and beyond what is expected to ensure that those she is surrounded by are able to bring their best to each class, project, and group as well.

“Emily leads from the front: planning events to celebrate students in class, designing projects for our unit studies, facilitating student-led discussions, and managing the work of the “Little Sibs” in our Honors program,” Crockett said. “Emily is an encourager, a brilliant student, and a mother figure to some of these kids. I’m lucky to have her and this crew.’
