Ten White County High School seniors recently took a big step in continuing their education and preparing for future careers when they signed letters of intent to attend TCAT-McMinnville this fall.

“This is an opportunity to allow our seniors that are committing to continue their post-secondary education at T-CAT McMinnville to be recognized,” Suzanne Rushing, the Advise TN College advisor who works on White County High School’s campus helping students navigate their senior year of high school, said. “This is a celebration for them as they publicly acknowledge what their future plans are. This is an opportunity to honor these students.”

The 10 White County High School seniors were committing to six different programs of study:

  • Automotive Tech – Isaac Alfaro (photo not available)
  • Building Construction – Dakota Anway, Jaiden Matheney, Dylan Noonan, Latrell White
  • Cosmetology – Emily Smith
  • Industrial Electricity – Keira Healy, Marvin Lawson
  • Industrial Maintenance – Destiny Johnson
  • Welding – Travis White

Rushing said because of Tennessee Promise, the students would be attending TCAT-McMinnville at no financial cost to their families.

“Tennessee Promise is a last dollar scholarship,” she explained. “Once all other financial aid has been applied to their bill, Tennessee Promise steps in and covers whatever’s left.”

Rushing said the combination of TCAT programs and Tennessee Promise is appealing as it gives students the opportunity to complete their education in less than two years and graduate with no debt.

“Then they are able to enter the workforce and provide a living for themselves and their families - become contributing members of our community,” she said. “To live in Tennessee, graduate from a Tennessee high school, receive the Tennessee Promise scholarship - it really is an opportunity to help students step into their future. Today is very exciting for these students and their families.”
