White County High School Academic Spotlight-Emily Ferris

Posted

Emily Ferris has made an impression on the faculty and staff at White County High School.

“A word that comes to mind when I think about Emily is tenacious,” Mrs. Tobi Swift, one of White County High School’s ELA faculty members, said. “I had the pleasure of being Emily’s AP Language and Composition teacher, and she was a top performer. In addition, one thing that is unique about Emily is that she attacks her educational endeavors, debates, and soccer with the same relentless preparedness and confidence.”

Ferris, who would like to be a medically focused clinical psychologist, makes sure that she balances her academics with sports and service to others. She is a member of the White County Interact Club where she has participated in both the Tangent Christmas Party and has helped provide for the Angel Christmas Tree. She is also a member of the BETA Club, the International Club, and the Science Club at WCHS and works at the Betty Dunn Nature Center, at Fall Creek Falls State Park.

“Not only is Emily a bold competitor, she is also a leader among her peers,” Swift said about Ferris who is also the captain of the Warriorette Soccer Team. “Her ability to think logically makes her mature for her age as well as a voice of reason to those around her.”

Ferris is a social high schooler who enjoys hanging out with her friends, but she balances her social life with plenty of time for personal reflection and development through reading, writing, listening to music, and baking. Of course, she is not going to let anything deter her from her plans to attend either the University of Tennessee Knoxville or the University of Tennessee Chattanooga after graduation, so her attention to her classwork is a priority and can be seen through her academic success.

“Although Emily has a bold voice among her peers, her work ethic still stands out as her most admirable quality,” Swift said. “I know that if I asked her to complete any task, she would tenaciously complete it, and the finished product would be flawless.”
