Posted

Hannah Austin is a dedicated student who has been determined to be successful in the classroom.

“During the week, I am usually so focused on my schoolwork to do much else,” the White County senior, who plans to attend the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with the goal of becoming a forensic psychologist, said. “I am usually working on an upcoming International Club meeting or homework assignment.”

Austin is the president of the White County High Schoolss International Club and a member of the Beta Club – both of which she says has given her the opportunity to grow and improve her leadership skills while there.

“As president of the International Club, I get to lead meetings and share my passion for learning about other cultures with my peers,” Austin explained.

It isn’t just her peers that Austin has displayed her passion for learning to, however. Faculty at White County High School has been impressed with her commitment to success.

“In all my years at WCHS, I’ve rarely found such a quiet voice inspired by such a musical soul. Hannah Austin wowed me her sophomore year as a student in my ELA class, and she continues to impress us all with her academic achievements, her loving friendship, and her brilliant insight into writing,” Jason Crockett, one of White County’s English teachers, said. “Hannah is a rare treasure with an empathy that inspires us all.”

As for her empathy, Austin has spent numerous hours helping others – from friends to family members to customers at Chestnut Oaks Farms Store and Kitchen. She has even spent time helping other clubs and organizations at WCHS with their service projects – groups she isn’t a member of but who could benefit from a little extra help from time to time.

“I’ve spent many hours helping with FFA events, even though I am not a member,” Austin said, explaining that she just likes to see other people succeed as well.

“I put a lot of effort into everything I do,” she said, admitting that she is usually willing to jump into helping with anything that is presented to her. “It can be overwhelming at times, but I am always ready for a challenge.”
