Sparta-White County Family YMCA aims to help members live a physically and emotionally fit life, and, they know that as part of that, many people have concerns about achieving and maintaining a safe and healthy weight

“The YMCA Weight Loss Program is designed to help people seeking a healthier weight achieve their goals by making small, modest changes to their daily behaviors and forming sustainable, healthy habits,” CEO Kyle Goff said, stating that a new program began Oct. 8.

Goff said the program is about more than just losing weight, and weekly topics will be introduced that will include the obvious things like nutrition and physical activity but will also cover a range of not-so-obvious topics such as stress, sleep, positive psychology, goal setting, and sustainability.

“Each week, participants will weigh in and be introduced to a new topic relevant to weight loss,” he said, stating that the program meets for an hour once a week for 12 weeks. “Participants will also discuss as a group, successes, challenges, suggestions around the weekly topic, and then develop goals for the upcoming week.”

Goff also said there is no exercise component, but participants are encouraged to engage in activities at the YMCA that support their weight loss efforts and personal goals.

“Anyone who enrolls in the program will receive a 30 percent discounted personal training rate,” Goff added, mentioning that YMCA personal trainers specialize in individualizing programs to help participants meet their specific goals and manage their expectations.

“Because weight loss is unique to each person, the YMCA Weight Loss Program focuses on helping individuals identify ways to make small, modest changes to their behavior within the context of their own life and in support of their weight loss goals,” he said.

The  YMCA Weight Loss Program began Oct. 8 and will meet weekly at noon. The program cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Anyone interested in joining the next session is encouraged to register and learn more by clicking here.
