Athlete of the Week: Anna McCulley

Posted

Anna McCulley is a sophomore at White County High School. She embodies persistence and determination while wearing the maroon & gray for the Warriorettes’ softball team.

McCulley has been playing softball for 10 years and catching for the majority. She talked about what drew her to catching. “I like catching because it allows me to have a lot of action and be involved in every play, and it also lets me help my team.”

At White County Middle School, McCulley did just that. She helped her team to go back to the district tournament as a one seed and place runner-up. She was also named All-Conference Team.

Going into high school, McCulley continued to show out for her team, but this time in a different position.

McCulley talked about what it meant to be a Warriorette and represent White County. “It feels pretty good being able to represent my hometown.”

She did just that. In her freshman season, she played third base, and that year, she had a batting average of 0.385, 37 hits, and 21 RBIs.

She was later named the 2025 First Team All-District in 3A District 7.

So far into her sophomore year, McCulley has a batting average of 0.443, 31 runs, 16 hits, and 18 RBIs.

When talking about her mentality while stepping in the box, McCulley said, “It’s just like the old saying: see ball, hit ball, ball go far.”

On the defensive end, she has recorded 79 put-outs and a fielding percentage of 0.965.

Outside of the white lines, McCulley recalled her favorite moment as a Warriorette so far. “The first day of the Gibbs Tourney rained out my freshman year. To pass the time and make most of the trip, we all went to the Main Event. It was so much fun.”

Off the dirt, she is also involved in the Beta Club. McCulley is a Service and Membership Liaison for the ninth- and tenth-graders.

Although she has two more years to go before she graduates, she spoke about her goals for the future. “I am hoping to go to college at Trevecca Nazarene University to study Pre-Physical Therapy.”

With the persistence and determination she has shown so far in softball, McCulley is on the right track to accomplish her goals and even more.
