Athlete of the Week: Lex Winfree

For his work in the trenches and his unexpected starring role in White County’s game-winning possession against Cookeville, Lex Winfree is the Athlete of the Week.

White County coach David Foster couldn’t say enough about his senior afterward. “He’s an absolute Warrior. He’s a man of few words, but he played his guts out tonight.”

Foster said Winfree was exhausted but refused to come off the field. “He was dying, needing a break, and he has never asked for a break. This is my fourth year with him. He’s never asked for a break.”

And when White County needed a little more from him, Winfree found it. “He’s just found a deeper place to go into and take something. I was just so proud of him.”

Foster said the Warriors have embraced the mentality of playing through the final whistle regardless of the situation.

“We’re going to play until the echo of the whistle on the very last play. Tonight, it turned out in our favor.”

That mentality was evident in Winfree’s determination to keep playing to ensure the win for White County.  Lex made his place known among the Warriors with his endurance and leadership in not quitting, no matter the circumstance.

Congratulations, Lex, on being this week’s Athlete of the Week sponsored by Cheek Insurance Agency.
