Sarah Mullican is a dedicated senior at White County High School and a standout member of the school’s bowling team. With a passion for the sport that started in her childhood, Mullican has made a significant impact both on and off the lanes.
Having bowled since she was little, Mullican’s journey with the sport has been transformative. Becoming a part of the Warrior bowling team changed the way she approached her time in the halls of White County High School.
“Bowling has added courage to my high school career,” she explained, saying that the confidence she gained is something that changed her. “It has helped me get out of my shell and meet new people.”
Mullican knew before she left middle school that she would be trying out for the bowling team once she got over to the high school the following fall.
“I’ve always loved to bowl, and I told my mom that I just wanted to bowl when I got to high school,” she recalled.
Her enthusiasm for the sport is something she was counting on giving her a place to belong, and it’s clear that her love for bowling has fostered lasting friendships.
“What I like most about it is meeting new friends and people,” she said.
As a member of a team that this season reached the semi-final round of the district tournament, Mullican has enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with the sport. She said it’s not just the teammates you spend the season with but also the friends you meet along the way – many from other schools.
“I will miss all my friends that I’ve made,” she expressed, hinting at the bittersweet feeling of approaching graduation.
When asked about her biggest accomplishment, she emphasized the memories and friendships forged rather than specific scores or matches.
Looking ahead, Mullican plans to pursue a career in early childhood education and is considering attending either Tennessee Tech or Vol State. While she hasn’t finalized her plans regarding competitive bowling after high school, she remains open to the possibility, at least on a league level.
To those considering joining the bowling team, Mullican encourages them wholeheartedly.
“You get to meet new people, and you do get to get out of school,” she laughed, highlighting the fun aspects of being part of a team.
Her advice to her teammates, as she prepares for graduation, is simple but powerful: “Just do you, don’t worry about nobody else.”
