Two White County High School soccer players earned individual district honors as the Warriorettes’ 2025 regular season came to a close. Katie Blakeman, a senior, was named District 7AA Defensive Player of the Year, while Makayla Sullivan was named the District 7AA Freshman of the Year.
Blakeman, who spent the first three seasons of her high school career on offense, made the move to defense during her senior season to help bolster the Warriorettes back line. Along with her defensive leadership, she still had some moments back up front this season. Blakeman scored five goals, including both of the penalty kicks her team called on her to make.
“Katie has been such a joy to coach. I am sad I only had her for two years,” Madison Mason, who is in just her second season as White County’s coach, said. “She is a true leader and team player. She has literally played every position on the field. I believe she has a very bright future ahead of her in whatever she does.”
Sullivan made her debut as a Warriorette this season and was an instant starter. The freshman was scored 13 of the Warriorettes’ 36 goals this year.
“For Makayla to be so young, she has a very high soccer IQ. She absolutely deserved this award, and I’m so glad the other coaches around the district through so too,” Mason said. “She will be a big component to the team as we head into the post season tournament and, of course, next season.”
District honors will be awarded during next week’s tournament. Along with Blakeman and Sullivan, Anna Joliff was named to the All District First Team. Maddie Austin and Kady Brymer were named to the All District Second Team.
