The White County High School Warriorettes finished their regular season, on Feb. 14, with a 58-42 win over the Livingston Wildcats as they went undefeated to claim the Division 3A District 7’s top seed.
Kyra Fox scored the first goal of the night to give the Warriorettes the lead they would never relinquish. White County outscored Livingston 15-10 in the first eight minutes and then built the lead to 12 by halftime. The Wildcats came out of the intermission with the intention of making things difficult for the Warriorettes, but the best they were able to do was keep the third quarter at a stalemate, with both teams scoring 11 each. The fourth quarter saw White County add 4 more to their lead to take home the 16-point victory.
Gracie Clark had a huge night going 6 for 12 from the floor and being perfect at the line as she sank all eight of her foul shots to bring her scoring total to 20 – the most she has scored in a single game since December. Clark was dominant in all phases of the game as she just missed out on a double-double. She hauled in eight rebounds, splitting them equally between the offensive and defensive sides of the court.
Bella Winningham sank three shots from behind the arc on her way to 14 points. Lakelyn Grasty was the third Warriorette to be in double-digit scoring, on Feb. 14, going five for 12 to put 11 points on the board. Kyra Fox had a single basket from behind the 3-point line and one from inside, but then she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the line to push her scoring total to 8.
Senior Ava Jones sank a 3-pointer and went 2-for-3 on free throws to score 5 points in the final regular season game of her career. It’s Jones’s defensive play that stands out and that was the case again, on Feb. 14, as she had three blocks and six rebounds – all on the defensive end of the court.
The Warriorettes played a disciplined, team game to secure their 10th district victory. They missed just three shots from the line, scoring 15 of their 58 points on free throws. They recorded 11 assists, showing they are more than willing to pass the ball, with Grasty leading the way with four, while Fox and Clark each had three assists, and Winningham recorded one.
Clark’s eight rebounds were the most by any Warriorette, on Feb. 14, but Grasty and Jones each had six rebounds. Kennedy Billings-Sullivan snagged five boards, four of them defensively, while Winningham, like Grasty and Clark, split hers (4) evenly between offense and defense, and Fox pulled down a single offensive rebound to bring White County’s total to 30.
The Warriorettes, who finish the season 26-3 overall and 10-0 in the district, will head into the post-season as the number one seed in the District Tournament which begins Feb. 18, at Tennessee Tech.
