The regular basketball season is over, and before tournament play begins, coaches voted to name this season’s top players across the district. Four White County Warriors were named among those players as they combined to bring home six honors.

Tripp Pinion, a senior, earned 1st team honors as well as being named Defensive MVP. Pinion, who missed the first several games due to an injury suffered during football season, put double digits on the board in every game he played for a total of 351 points this season. He also pulled down 90 rebounds, had 63 assists, and 39 steals.

Lucas Dickerson and Tucker Pinion were both named to the District 7 AAA’s third team. Dickerson, also a senior, had 129 points, thanks in part to sinking 31 percent of his shots from behind the arc, along with 23 rebounds, 12 assists, and 15 steals. Tucker Pinion, in just his second high school season, had 155 points, 53 rebounds (42 of them on defensive), and an impressive 28 assists, third most among all Warriors, to go with 24 steals, second only to his brother.

Cole Sims was the fourth Warrior to be named among honor recipients as he was given an Honorable Mention, along with being named to the All-District Defensive Team. Sims, a sophomore, played in a little over half of the Warriors’ on-court minutes and 114 points and 89 rebounds – 53 of which were defensive. He was second on the team in assists with 61, while recording 23 steals.

Also being recognized in this year’s list of honors recipients is Warriors’ head coach Eric Mitchell. Mitchell, who is in his 20th season at the helm of the White County boys’ basketball program, led the Warriors to a 5-5 district record after starting out 1-4. The Warriors finished third in the district for the regular season but with a strong finish, going 5-1 in their last six games, are poised for a strong post season.
