Gerald Douglas Usrey, 72, of Sparta, passed away on May 12, 2024.
Gerald was born April 26, 1952, in Sparta, to Enoch Usrey and Ruby Gentry Usrey.
He was a member of O’Connor Church of Christ. Gerald loved spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger. Once he met you, he knew your name, where you were from, where you worked, and most of your relatives, and he remembered you when he saw you again. He loved to fish, especially Edd Rogers Tournaments. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Etta, for 54 years. He coached his daughters’ ball teams, he drove the church bus, he served his country, he would show up to help anyone who had a need.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Tom Eller, Troy Henry, Roy Henry, Horace Henry, Carl Henry; his sisters-in-law, Louise Henry, Brenda Henry, Phyllis Henry; and his nephew, John David Eller.

Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Etta Henry Usrey; children, Kim (Tom) Stafford, Tammy (Andy) Thomas; grandchildren, Annalee Stafford, Allison Thomas, Jared Stafford, Katelyn Thomas; special granddaughter. Chelsea Alspaugh Simmons; siblings, Mary Eller, Brenda Wilson-Guy; sisters-in-law, Mary Henry, Ruth Phifer, Louise Henry; brother-in-law, R.V. Henry; and numerous other family members.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., May 16, 2024, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Doyle Crawford and Eugene Bray officiated.
Thank you to Gentiva Hospice nurses and aides, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Dr. Herbert Duvivier, Woodspring Suites of Newnan, all of our church families, friends who’ve prayed, and every person the Lord sent to us to meet our needs during Gerald’s illness.
Pallbearers were Jason Wilson, Justin Wilson, Todd Eller, Dillon Oliver, Jared Stafford, and Ryan Paul Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Stafford and Andy Thomas.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
