High school softball has no trouble in 11-1 win over Cumberland County

The White County High School softball team made it back-to-back wins as they defeated the Cumberland County Lady Jets 11-1, on March 27.

The Warriorettes came out fast and put three runs up on the board in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the game. While Cumberland County managed to get an unearned run across the plate in the top of the third inning, their lack of offense only gave them five base runners all night. White County answered their guests run in the third with two of their own in their turn at bat. They then added four more in the fourth and another 2 in the fifth to end the game with the 10-run mercy rule.

Mabry Taylor was phenomenal as she gave up just four hits and didn’t allow an earned run as she stayed in the circle throwing 63 pitches for the complete game.

On offense, it was Kylie Norvell leading the way. Norvell went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a pair of bases. Abigail Schalk matched Norvell’s offense going 2-for-2 and scoring a pair of runs herself. While Anna McCulley never crossed the plate, her two hits were good enough to drive in a pair of runs.

Overall, White County hit .417 on the night with seven Warriorettes getting base hits. As a team, they drew 6 walks while only striking out twice as they continued to put the ball in play and make the Lady Jets work to get them off the basepaths.

The win got the Warriorettes back to .500 as their record now stands at 6 wins, 6 losses.
