Lee Roy Burks, 83, of Sparta, passed away March 7, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Burks was born Oct. 27, 1937, in the Tick Community of Jackson County, to Monk Burks and Mandy Stafford Burks.

After his service in the United States Navy, Mr. Burks began a long, varied business career - ranging from a bootlegger in the early years to a 47-year-career in insurance. Along the way, he worked as a timekeeper for Sparta Spoke Factory and owned Burks Amusement Company, where he supplied arcade games, pool tables, and pinball machines all over the Upper Cumberland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph, Mary, Jean, and George.

Surviving family members include his daughters, Darlene Goodwin and husband Gary, Heather Hayes and husband Jerry; sons, Mike Burks, Kevin Burks; nine grandchildren, Stacia Drouillard, Brad Goodwin, Trent Goodwin, Tiffany Dobson, Katlin Burks, Madison Burks, Braedon Burks, Devin Hayes, Brookelynn Hayes; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Burks.

Funeral service was 1 p.m., March 10, 2021, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Turkey Town Cemetery, in Clay County. Sterl Paramore officiated.

Trent Goodwin, Brad Goodwin, Devin Hayes, Braedon Burks, Levi Burks, and Delano Drouillard served as pallbearers.  

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
