Minute With the Mayor

I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make this year's Lester Flatt Celebration another successful event for the City of Sparta. Although the weather didn't cooperate as we had hoped, it certainly didn't dampen the dedication, hard work, and spirit of those who helped make this celebration possible.

A special thank you to Leslie Melton, our City Event Coordinator; Tonya Tindle, our City Administrator; and Dillard Quick and Gideon McCurry for their leadership, planning, and commitment to making this event a success. I also want to recognize all of our city employees who worked behind the scenes, preparing, setting up, assisting throughout the day, and cleaning up afterward. These events don't just happen. They require countless hours of preparation and a team of people willing to go the extra mile. I am extremely proud of our city staff and the job they do.

I also want to extend a very special thank you to Blake and Kimberly Williams for their tremendous talent, hard work, and leadership. Their contributions to this celebration are invaluable, and we are grateful for the passion they bring to keeping our area's rich bluegrass heritage alive.

To everyone who came out despite the less-than-ideal weather, THANK YOU! Your support is what makes these community celebrations worthwhile. I also want to especially thank everyone who visited and took part in the activities at our new Sparta Event and Conference Center. It was exciting to see people enjoying this new addition to our community, and I believe it will become an important gathering place for Sparta for many years to come.

For nearly 30 years, the Lester Flatt Celebration has been a part of Sparta's tradition, honoring one of our area's most recognized musical legends and celebrating the bluegrass heritage that is such an important part of who we are. This celebration is about more than music. It's about community, friendships, preserving our history, and passing along our traditions to the next generation.

And here's the good news: We're already scheduled for next year! We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition and making the next celebration even better.

Thank you again to everyone who had a hand in making this year's event possible. Sparta is a special place because of the people who care enough to invest their time, energy, and talents into making our community better.

God Bless, Be Safe, and Finish Strong!
