The City of Sparta enjoyed a relatively brief meeting during this month’s first Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Given the parade was underway as the meeting began, both viewers and the board themselves likely wanted to get through things quickly to join the homecoming festivities.
The first order of business was the hiring of a Reserve Police Officer, vouched for by Chief Nick Dunn. The Board also approved the purchase of a 2026 Silverado from Wilson County Motors for the Water Department’s use. It was a budgeted item for $42,963.10. Another budgeted item approved was the approval of Gullett for sludge removal at the Water Plant.
The city also had the announcement of their Carbon Monoxide Detector giveaway, which was given away throughout October 6 at Sparta Electric.
All Board meetings are open to the public on the first and third Thursday of the month, except this month where the next meeting has been pushed back a week until October 22. The meetings are also livestreamed on Sparta TN Media’s YouTube page.
