Doyle resident Ray Allen Maples passed away Oct. 2, 2022, at his home. Ray was born Jan. 2, 1950, in Kingsport, to the Rev  Daniel W. and Patricia Kauth Maples.

Ray lived a life of compassion, honesty, kindness, love, and    patience toward others, and he expected nothing in return. He was a listener and a keen observer of people’s true character. He lived a simple life of service to his country and community. He appreciated everything he had.

Ray was a graduate of White County High School and Tennessee Tech University; proud U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Vietnam era; owned and operated Maples Cabinets; former White County School Board member; former Doyle Fire Department chief; and former Doyle Community Club and PTO president. He was a member of Doyle First Baptist Church.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Sue Turner; and brother-in-law, Franklin Turner.

Ray is survived by his wife, Kay Maples; son, Allen Maples and wife Billie; daughter, Michelle Maples; grandson, Jacob Maples;     granddaughter, Anna Maples; sister, Barbara Honeycutt and husband Dr. Dean; nephews, Jonathan Honeycutt, Dr. Paul Honeycutt and wife Patricia, Christopher Turner and wife Lori, David Turner; mother-in-law, Luzelle Mason; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral service was 3 p.m., Oct. 5, 2022, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Dr. Paul Honeycutt, Christopher Turner, and Jason Brown officiated. Burial followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery in the Veteran's Garden, with full military rites by the Veterans’ Honor Guard.

Special thanks to Cookeville VA, Kindred Hospice, UCHRA transportation, and Visiting Angels Respite for the kindness you showed to Ray during his illness.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Honeycutt, Dr. Paul Honeycutt, Anna Maples, Jacob Maples, Christopher Turner, David Turner. and Dewayne Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Eller, Donny Haley, Phillip Knowles, Ernie Raper, and Herschel Wells

Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans’ Honor Guard.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
