White County Sheriff’s Office claims a Tennessee first. Their new adoption of a Digital Siren app will give notifications to members of the community when they are near an active emergency response or pursuit. So, if someone is driving and a vehicle pursuit is getting close to them, their phone will sound an alert to warn them.
The app is intended to help increasez awareness of law enforcement on the road and reduce collisions or obstructions. Everybody has seen, or been, the one car on the road that does not notice the ambulance and fails to get over in time. The Digital Siren system will notify whenever drivers need to either slow down or take heed of their surroundings. An example of its use would be the radio screen flashing a “CAUTION” alert.
Sheriff Steve Page said, “This project is a direct result of community support and Sheriff’s Office investment. Because of these donors, and our commitment to public safety, our deputies and citizens are safer.”
At one of the next Rotary Club meetings, the Sheriff’s Department intends to do a live demonstration to help showcase the effectiveness of the app while educating on its safe usage.
The app and the proper links to download for IOS or Android are on the sheriff’s website at whitecountytn.gov/government.county-offices/white-county-sheriffs-office. Scroll down to “Digital Siren — Powered by Pursuit Alert” and the downloads will be listed below.
