1966

  • Bill Cowden of Spartan Industries, Miss Ora Lee Haney of the Department of Employment Security, and Mr. Lee and Paul Bryon of Goodform Hanger were all awarded certificates for their company's employment of handicapped persons.
  • The Soil Conservation Service and other Agricultural departments had $100,000 of funds approved for projects in the Sparta area, although the wider project serviced all of the Upper Cumberland. Small stream dams and other flood control methods were the primary focus in our region.
  • Sparta broke into the Top Ten on the lit ratings for the state, making our small town the tenth best team in all of Tennessee for a short time. The closest in comparison was Cookeville, all the way back at 56. Behind them, Livingston, all the way down at 173.

1986

  • In an amusing amount of rainfall during an important match for the season, White County Warriors slipped by Grundy County in an 8-0 win. The first three and a half quarters of the game were characterized by heavy, nonstop rainfall. The last few minutes, however, saw a thick fog blanketing the field, which made for a rather difficult viewing experience for the crowd, not to mention the difficulty it caused for the players!
  • The Warrior golf team managed to score 2nd place in the regional tournament, beating all other teams save for Cookeville. Both Warriors and Cookeville had two golfers in the top four scorers.
  • Many county residents began to voice concern, as the White County Commission warned that a county tax hike was very likely, maybe as much as $1 per $100 of value. The increase in tax was said to be at least 24 cents, with the difference between 24 cents and $1 coming down to how much they would be able to trim by the following week.

1996

  • Sparta City Hall hosted the official lease signing contract between Big Bend Technologies and Sparta/White County. Mayor John Creek and Executive Tommy Denton both signed the lease together alongside BBTI president Miki Nakayasu.

2006

  • White County Sheriff's Department was approved for a whopping 10 new patrol cars, costing $210,000 from the Commission.
  • Highway 70 saw four vehicle accidents on the same day. While thankfully, none of the accidents resulted in major injuries, unfortunately all four accidents involved residents of Sparta in the wrecks.

2016

  • The White County band was offered, and eagerly accepted, the opportunity to perform in the National Independence Day Parade
  • 2016 was rife with drought conditions during the early Fall, leading to a few major fire scares and the increased risk of wildfire. County and Fire Department leadership had to issue some pretty serious burning warnings due to the risk.
  • Christpoint Church hosted a ribbon-cutting for their location at 13 Liberty Square. It hasn't been long since, in 2026, the church unveiled its new location on Maughon Road.
