2014
Alexis Kidd was named the 2014 White County High School Homecoming Queen.
Sparta-White County Rescue Squad completed two rescues in 24 hours. One rescue included a victim who had fallen off a cliff and suffered a head injury, along with other lower limb injuries. The second rescue involved a victim who had fallen from another cliff and had suffered leg and pelvis injuries.
Warriorette senior golfer Shelby Johnson qualified for the TSSAA golf state tournament for the third year in her career. She had tied for third in the region to earn the berth in the state contest.
2004
Rachael Lowery was named the White County Middle School homecoming queen.
Sgt. Delano Drouillard was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroic actions in Baghdad.
Local veterans unveiled a sign, denoting Highway 70 as “Veterans Memorial Highway.”
1994
Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board was named the Airport Governing Body of the Year at the Tennessee Airport Board Association Conference.
Desert Storm veteran and Congressional candidate Van Hilleary met with Tennessee National Guardsmen Spc. Steven R. Franklin and Spc. Matt Elmore at the White County Fair to discuss issues.
Billy Kent was crowned Ms. Senior White County. She was also the recipient of the talent award for her comedy routine.
1984
Gov. Lamar Alexander came to Sparta to visit new business Spar-Tex and Findlay School.
Cate Fuller became the first female member of the Sparta Civitan Club in its history.
The first-ever budget for the Sparta Electric and Water System was passed on first reading. The budget was set at $4.34 million.
1974
Susan Hunter was the winner of the 16th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, in Shelbyville.
Red steel was erected for the first of two t-hangars at the Sparta-White County Airport, and the concrete was poured for the second.
Democratic governor candidate Ray Blanton visited with White County residents.
