Wanda Joyce Brock Hunter Ware, 85, better known as “Granny J,” passed away Aug. 20, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 22, 1937, in Derossett (White County), to Harry Eugene Brock and Clara Bell Green Brock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ray Hunter, Ivan Ware; sister, Peggy Geer; and brother, Gene Brock.

She worked for Manuel Officer and Jack Mitchell at Officer Drug Store for many years and then to the old hospital which later became NHC Healthcare of Sparta. There she worked as a CNA for 24 years and then retired.  After retiring, she loved to travel. She also loved having family game nights, playing poker where she would “clean the house.” She loved playing her favorite games on the computer and word searches.  She loved when family and friends came to visit.  She would always ask, “What’s your hurry? You just got here.”  She hated seeing them leave.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie J. Brown, of Sparta; granddaughters, Stephanie J. Hickey and husband Chris, of Crossville, Jennifer Case and husband James, of Sparta; great-grandchildren, Rhealan Leonard and Camron, Zach Hickey, Morgan Case, and Isaac Case; great-great-grandchildren, Tatum McClain, Remingtonn Leonard; sister, Sandra Gail Majewski, of Wisconsin; special friend, June Goolsby; honorable mention, Chris Tase; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Aug. 25, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Old Bon Air Cemetery. Bro. Randall Kirby will officiate. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Aug. 24, and 8-11 a.m., Aug. 25, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tase, David Johnson, Camron Leonard, Christopher Hickey, Zach Hickey, and James Bumbalough.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Hickey, Tatum McClain, and Greg Newport.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
