Warriorette Softball Suffers loss to the Lady Pioneers

The White County High School Warriorettes’ softball team finished off their regular season with a 12-8 loss to the Warren County High School Lady Pioneers at Glenn ‘Buckshot’ Sims Field.

Mabry Taylor started in the circle for the Warriorettes. The Lady Pioneers’ offense started off hot in the top of the first.

Kaydence Wiser led off with a single on a ground ball to left field, and Ruby Denning followed with a home run to right field, putting the Lady Pioneers to an early 2-0 start.

The Warriorettes’ offense answered back. Addison Norvell led off with a single to third base. Kylie Norvell then hit a single to center field. 

Anna McCulley doubled to right field to score in Addison and Kylie Norvell, tying up the game.

Callie Phillips was then walked, but she got out by a fielder's choice on Addison Howell’s hit.

AK Wallace hit a single to center field to score in McCulley, giving White County a 3-2 lead.

The Warriorettes’ defense kept the Lady Pioneers from scoring in the top of the second inning.

The momentum kept following them into the bottom of the second. Abbi Hutson led off with a double to right field.

Addison Norvell hit a sacrifice bunt to move Hutson to third base. Kylie Norvell then singled on a ground ball to center field, scoring in Hutson.

McCulley kept it going with a single to right field to move Kylie Norvell to third base. Phillips grounded out to second base, but she scored in Kylie Norvell.

Howell singled on a ground ball to right field to score in Blakelyn Cope, pinch runner for McCulley. 

The Lady Pioneers kept battling in the top of the third. Lola Wells singled on a line drive to center field, and she then Wells advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kaidence Crouch scored her in to start bridging the gap.

Warren County kept White County from scoring in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, all while doing damage of their own.

Their offense took off in the fourth inning, scoring six runs. Alexis Ross led off with a walk, and Kyaria Sharp followed with a single to shortstop.

Wiser made the first crack into the Warriorettes’ defense with a double to left field to score in Ross.

After Denning was intentionally walked, Ceilee Gudat reached on an error to third baseman. The error allowed Wiser to score in.

Crouch then hit a grand slam to center field, turning the game around for the Lady Pioneers.

Ross and Alissa Young had back-to-back singles to the left side of the field, but Ross was then called out when advancing to third on Wiser’s hit to third base.

After an error by the catcher, Young scored in another run to increase the gap to 10-6. The Lady Pioneers continued to bridge the gap every inning with one run in each.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriorettes tried to battle back. Kylie Norvell led off with a single to right field, and McCulley was then walked.

Phillips singled on a line drive to center field to score in Kylie Norvell. McCulley was able to score on a passed ball to add another run for White County.

The Warriorettes were not able to tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the score 12-8 for the Lady Pioneers.

Kylie Norvell batted a 0.750. Wallace and McCulley both batted a 0.500, and McCulley also had two RBIs. Phillips had two RBIs, too.

Taylor left the circle with three strikeouts.

For the Lady Pioneers, Gudat had one strikeout, and Neveah Duggin struck out three. 

Ross batted a 0.667, and Wiser had a batting average of 0.600. Wiser also had three RBIs from her grand slam.

Head coach Jerry Roberts said, “Though we played a solid game in all aspects of the game. One of the better games we have played all year, and I hope this momentum follows us into the district tournament.”

The White County Warriorettes play their first round of district tournament on May 1st at Stone Memorial High School against the #2 Stone Memorial Lady Panthers.
